Privacy Policy

NutriScan (the “App” or the “Service”) turns photos of your meals into stickers for a personal board, with an A–E grade and approximate calories and macros. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, why, who processes it, and your choices. NutriScan has no account, no sign-up and no advertising. By using NutriScan, you agree to the practices described here.

You do not create an account to use NutriScan, and we never ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts or precise location.

The following stays on your iPhone. It is stored locally by the App (in an on-device SQLite database and the App’s preferences) and is deleted when you delete the App:

• Stickers and meals: your sticker cutouts, meal history, grades, estimated calories and macros, and the portions you edit.
• Your profile: age, height, weight, goal weight and activity level, which the App uses to work out your daily calorie target.
• Your plan and challenges: your daily target (including any edits) and the challenges you create and their progress.
• Preferences: settings such as your chosen paper background.

We do not have a copy of this information on our servers.

• Meal recognition: when you scan a meal, the photo is sent to Google’s Gemini model through Firebase AI Logic (a Google service) to recognise the foods and estimate portions. If you photograph a nutrition label, that photo is sent the same way to read the values on it.
• On-device cutout: removing the background to make your sticker happens on your iPhone. The cutout itself is not uploaded.
• App Check: Firebase App Check, using Apple’s App Attest, verifies that requests to the AI service come from the genuine App, to protect it from abuse.
• Weekly insights and tips: to write a short note about your week, an anonymized summary of your logged meals (for example foods, grades, calories and macros) is sent to Gemini through Firebase AI Logic. It contains no photos and nothing that identifies you.

Google processes this content under its own terms and privacy policy to return the result to the App.

• USDA FoodData Central: the names of recognised foods (text only, never photos) are sent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s FoodData Central database to look up nutrition values.
• Open Food Facts: when you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts database to find the product. No other information is sent with it.

• Usage analytics: Google Firebase Analytics collects app usage events — for example screens viewed, scans made and the grades shown — together with device information such as device model, OS version, app version and approximate country. We use it to understand which features help people and to fix problems.
• Crash reports: if the App crashes, Firebase Crashlytics may collect a crash report (stack trace, device model, OS and app version).
• No tracking: NutriScan does not use your advertising identifier, does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, does not show ads and does not sell your data.

If you subscribe to NutriScan Premium, Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment card details. We use Adapty to verify your subscription status. Adapty receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase and entitlement information, not your name or email.

• Providing the Service: recognising meals, making stickers, estimating grades, calories and macros, calculating your daily target, and running challenges and insights.
• Premium: checking your subscription status to unlock unlimited scans.
• Improving the Service: understanding feature use, fixing bugs and crashes.
• Support: answering your messages.

• On your device: your stickers, meals, profile, plan and challenges stay until you delete them or the App. Deleting the App deletes them. Because there is no account, we cannot restore them for you.
• With providers: content sent for AI processing and nutrition lookups is handled by Google, USDA and Open Food Facts under their own terms. Analytics, crash and subscription records are kept according to each provider’s retention settings, and we will help delete them on request.
• Permissions: you can revoke camera or photo library access at any time in your iPhone Settings.

What you eat can be sensitive. NutriScan keeps your meal history on your device, sends only what is needed to recognise food and write your insights, and never uses it for advertising. NutriScan is a wellness app, not a medical device, and nothing in it is medical advice. See the Terms of Use.

NutriScan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App, contact us and we will help delete any related records held by our providers.

Our providers may process information on servers outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. We rely on their safeguards for such transfers.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information. Most of your information is on your device and under your control. For records held by our providers, email us and we will help. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of NutriScan after an update means you accept the revised policy.
