Introduction
Tempo (“Tempo: Healthy Eating Habits”, the “Service”) is a calorie tracker with an AI coach: you tell it or show it what you ate, it logs the meal, counts calories and macros, and checks it against the eating habit you are working on. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, why, who processes it, and your choices. Tempo has no account, no sign-up and no advertising. By using Tempo, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
We never ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts or precise location. The app handles the following:
- Your diary: meals (names, portions, calories and macros, time), water, weight entries, the habit rules you keep and your progress on them, foods Tempo has learned from your logs, and meals you planned. It is stored in a database on your device.
- Your profile: your goal and target weight, sex, birth year, height, weight, activity level, usual wake-up and bed times, and the calorie and macro targets worked out from them. It is stored on your device and used to set your targets and eating window.
- Meal photos: when you log a meal from a photo, the app keeps a downscaled copy (at most 1080 px on the short edge) on your device so the diary can show it. Location and other EXIF metadata are not kept. The original from your camera is never saved by Tempo.
- Chat messages and photos you send to the AI coach: see “AI Processing” below.
- Usage data: events such as “meal logged”, “photo estimated”, “barcode scanned”, “rule advanced” or “water logged”, with coarse details like how a meal was logged, counts and rule numbers. Usage data never includes calories, water amounts, weight or other health values, the text of your messages, meal names or photos.
- Diagnostics: crash reports and error logs (stack traces, device model, OS and app version).
- Device identifier: Apple’s identifier for vendor on your device, kept so it survives a reinstall. It is the same in our other apps on the same device. It is not your advertising identifier. It is used to link your subscription status to your device.
- Purchases: if you subscribe, Apple processes the payment. We receive the subscription status and transaction details through Adapty. We never see your payment card details.
How We Use Your Information
- Providing the Service: to log meals, estimate calories and macros from text and photos, check meals against your habit rules, show your history and trends, and power the widgets and reminders.
- Free tier and Premium: the number of free AI requests you used today is counted on your device. Your subscription status unlocks Tempo Premium.
- Improving the Service: to understand which features help people, fix bugs and crashes, and measure whether changes work.
- Support: to answer your messages.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads, we do not use your advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
AI Processing
Tempo uses Google’s Gemini models through Firebase AI Logic. When you send a message to the coach, your message is sent to Google together with a short summary the app adds about your day — the time, today’s calories and macros against your targets, the meals you logged or planned, your eating window, the habit you are practising and your weight goal and pace — so the answer fits your day. When you log a meal from a photo or ask what you can make from your fridge, the photo is sent to Google after the app shrinks it and removes its metadata, including GPS location. Firebase App Check is used so that only the genuine app can call the AI service. Google processes this content under its own terms and privacy policy to produce your result.
Dictation uses Apple’s speech recognition. Your iPhone transcribes on the device where it can; otherwise Apple transcribes it under Apple’s privacy policy. Only the resulting text is used by Tempo.
Third-Party Services
Tempo relies on the following providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase: AI Logic / Gemini (AI processing), App Check (protects our AI service from abuse), Analytics (app opens, sessions, device and app version, approximate country, and the usage events described above) and Crashlytics (crash reports).
- Adapty: subscription and trial management. Adapty receives your device identifier and purchase and entitlement data, and may forward subscription events (such as trial started or renewed) to Firebase Analytics.
- Apple: processes all payments and manages your subscription (App Store) and transcribes dictation where it cannot be done on the device.
- Open Food Facts: when you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts database to look up the product. No other information is sent with it.
- Google Fonts: on first launch the app downloads its typefaces from Google’s font servers, which see your IP address like any web request.
Notifications and Widgets
Reminders (for example, about your eating window or your weekly review) are scheduled locally on your device; Tempo does not use push notifications from a server. The Today and Rule widgets read a small summary of your day that the app shares with them on your device.
Data Retention & Deletion
- On your device: your diary, profile and meal photos stay on your device until you delete them or the app. Deleting the app deletes them. We have no copy of your diary on a server.
- With providers: messages and photos sent for AI processing are handled by Google under its retention terms. Analytics, crash and subscription records are kept according to each provider’s retention settings and deleted on request.
- Permissions: you can revoke camera, photo, microphone, speech recognition or notification access at any time in your device Settings.
Health Information
What you eat and what you weigh can be sensitive. Tempo keeps your diary on your device, sends to the AI only what is needed to answer you, and never uses health information for advertising or analytics. Tempo is a wellness app, not a medical device; see the Terms of Use.
Children’s Privacy
Tempo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under the age required to consent to data processing where you live, use Tempo only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, contact us and we will help delete the related records.
International Data Transfers
Tempo is available in many countries. Information processed by our providers may be handled on servers outside your country of residence, including in the United States and the European Union. We rely on our providers’ safeguards for such transfers.
Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA and similar laws)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information. Most of your information is on your device and under your control. For records held by our providers, email us and we will help. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Tempo after an update means you accept the revised policy.
